Sorry it has been so long since our last posting. We have been experiencing some computer problems. Lauren has been doing great. If you have been following Lauren’s website journal, you will remember that the only skill Lauren lost during transplant was the ability to drink from a straw. I wasn’t sure if she couldn’t or if she just became very dependent on her sippy cup during transplant. She has mastered that skill again and is drinking independently from a trainer cup (prepares the child to drink from a regular glass). We are very proud of her.
Lauren has always loved to color but it has always just been random scribbles all over the page. She has started coloring in the lines. For example, her therapist told her to color the hat and she just colored in that area.
Lauren has decided she’s had enough therapy. Now she’s ready to be a therapist herself. She makes us do exercises now. She especially likes to make her Mia and Papa (Carrie’s parents) exercise. She gave them such a workout last week that they were both a little sore afterwards . We are going to Sedona for the weekend and the kids are staying with their Mia and Papa. I think the kids are as excited as we are...a whole weekend at Mia and Papa’s house. Mia called and asked what Lauren has been doing in therapy this week because she knew she would be having to do it all weekend long with her.
We have ordered the soy pill (genestein) and are waiting for it to arrive. Please pray that this pill helps Lauren and all the other children that are starting on the pill. The other Sanfillipo kids that have started on the pill are doing amazing things. Kids that have been wheelchair bound for over a year are starting to walk again. Other children had lost the ability to talk and are starting to say words again.(Praise God) Something very exciting for us is one little boy has been deaf for 5 years and is regaining some of his hearing. We pray that this pill could help Lauren regain some of her hearing. She still does not want to wear her hearing aids. We have ordered a bridge for them, which is suppose to help block out the background noise.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support. If you haven’t already, look at the pictures from Father’s Day. Access from the home page.
